October 17, 2005, Halifax, NS – In Atlantic Canada, world problems are being tackled by innovative researchers working in partnership with business, universities and the financial community. These success stories are featured in the second issue of Progress Research and Discovery. Published later this week and with broad international and Canadian circulation, the magazine will have an advance launch at Springboard’s Member Technology Showcase, which will feature some of the inventive Atlantic researchers highlighted in the magazine.
Progress Research & Discovery offers a valuable tool to Atlantic researchers and their institutions, allowing them to present their accomplishments to an international audience of venture capitalists, angel investors and corporate partners.
“Commercialized research generated by Atlantic Canadians represents a tremendous business opportunity for this region,” said publisher Neville Gilfoy. “For this reason, Progress is expanding circulation of Research & Discovery magazine and taking it to a broad business audience in Toronto, Ottawa and other world centres as well as Atlantic Canada. This magazine has the largest circulation of Progress products. Our organization is particularly pleased to partner with our region’s universities in presenting their commercialization success stories.”
The October issue of Progress Research & Discovery features 28 stories about entrepreneurs and scientists from across the region who have successfully commercialized innovations such as Green solutions for the environment; innovative Cancer treatments; and pharmaceuticals for the next superbug.
A list of profiled innovations is attached.
On Wednesday, October 19, researchers from Atlantic Canadian universities, including some of those featured in the magazine will be present at the Springboard Member Technology Showcase: Bringing Research to Life. These researchers will be on hand to discuss their innovations and to highlight what they have to offer for commercialization and partnerships.
“Springboard’s Technology Showcase is a unique opportunity to hear about the exciting research that is taking place in universities throughout Atlantic Canada” said Sara Jane Snook, Springboard’s Executive Director. “Springboard members will lead the commercialization of research in Atlantic Canada and we are delighted to have a new publication like Progress Research & Discovery that is dedicated to bringing these success stories to the public.”
Showcase presentations start at 12 noon and continue until 6:30 at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax where researchers will be available for contact. A full schedule of presenters and their topics, can be viewed at www.springboardatlantic.ca
Highlights from Progress Research & Discovery can be viewed on-line at www.progresscorp.com on or before October 21, 2005, the day on which the publication will be included with the Atlantic distribution of the Globe and Mail; and accompany the Toronto and Ottawa distribution of the National Post (subscribers only).
