Chartered Accountants of Canada
The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) -- together with each Provincial CA Institute and the Quebec Ordre -- represents approximately 72,000 CAs and 10,000 students in Canada and Bermuda. As the largest and most prominent accounting designation in Canada, CAs are known for their superior financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight and leadership skills.

Our members hold key decision-making positions in businesses both big and small, as well as within government, academia, not-for-profit organizations and public accounting firms. According to an analysis performed by the CICA of the Globe & Mail’s 2007 Report on Business Top 1000 Companies, CAs continue to occupy positions in these organizations’ upper ranks. Six in 10 (59.6%) CFOs in the 2006 ROB 1000 are CAs, compared with 57.9% last year, 58.1 in 2005, 56.8% in 2004, 55.1% in 2003, 54.5% in 2002, and 53% in 2001. The trend suggests that this number will continue to rise in the future. Other positions in ROB 1000 frequently held by CAs include chair (12.3%), CEO (9.4%), president (9.2%), secretary (16.4%) and COO (7.6%).

Like our members, the CICA values integrity and objectivity. Trust is the cornerstone of our profession, whether we are conducting research into current business issues or supporting the setting of accounting, auditing and assurance standards for business, not-for-profit organizations and government.
